Edwards came on saturday and abused him (Carter) and he (C) said he did not want him to do so again. He called me and Mr. Pote in and read the aggreement between him and Mr. Edwards so both of us could understand it. He read the aggreement to us and remarked he wanted the difficulty stopped and told Mr. Pote and myself that if we saw Mr. Edwards rather than have the difficulty he would send to Judge Comptons and get the money and pay it. We were in the act of starting when some one remarked they are coming now. Mr. Edwards was in sight of the gate when I met him. I spoke to Mr. Edwards and he asked what all the horses were doing here. Edwards then remarked he came for no difficulty. At that time Mr. Carter told him not to come in after the threats he had made until things were better fixed up. I told Edwards not to go in, he said he came for no difficulty. I told Edwards not to shoot and he (Carter) told Edwards not to come in, and had his gun in his hands. When Mr. Edwards came in 3 or 4 yards of the door I caught hold of him and told him not to go in and then caught hold of the muzzle of the gun in the hands of Carter, and then Edward scursed Carter, and Carter pulled his gun, and told me to let it loose. Edwards then put both hands at his side and said I am not affraid of your gun
