or you either, you damned son of a bitch. I then got away. I did not see Carter shoot or Edwards fall. The gun fired and Edwards fell dead Mr. Edwards did not have a pistol out. I saw Mr. Carter leave after the difficulty, as he stepped out he pushed me aside and said take care and walked off past. He started in the direction of the house lot. I got a message from Mr. Carter and met him on the hill east of his house about three (3) or four (4) hundred yards. He told me he wanted me to take care of his little stuff and asked me if I thought he did right. I told him I thought Edwards would have killed him. He then said he was going down to Bug Hardens, and said you will hear from me in a few days.

"Cross Examination"
Mr. Carter had two double barrell shot guns lying on the bed in his office. I told him he had no use for my gun. Mr. Carter did not admit that he owed the money, but rather than have the difficulty he would pay the amount. He seemed at the time very much excited.
