Testimony of A.B. Hardin who being duly sworn sayeth:

Mr. Carter came to my house on the night of the 10th of June, about 12 o'clock. He staid at my house until monday morning. He then went to Centreville in company with myself. He told me when he came to my house that he was in a difficulty, that he had left home for the purpose of keeping out of farther difficulty. He requested me to go to Centreville with him for the purpose of surrendering himself to the military authorities and get a council, and did surrender to the military. I live in Leon County about 30 miles from this place. On the next saturday after he got to my house he reported to the authority. After hearing of the affair I sent a man up to get a statement of the facts.

(Signed) A.B. Hardin.
