I am too tired to give you the charges which I shall make against these men, & will merely say that Duty is utterly lawless & reckless, & has killed at the least four men, Mitchell is slyer less reckless, but with more brains, & is considered quite as dangerous a man.
 
The villains I am told are in terror, two whom I know as members of this gang, but whom I had no intention of molesting have cleared out, the other two ring-leaders, are here & will remain. Anderson is bed-ridden with fifteen or twenty buck-shot in his body, the sequel of a street fight a few days - since, I shall grab him as soon as I think he can be transported. The other one Stanley, is a confidence man, member of this church, makes long prayers &c, & is supposed to furnish brains for his [[leagues layaers?]]. It will be difficult to fasten anything upon him, though I shall be particular about proof, his arrest would be warranted on "general principal", without any evidence whatever. The great majority of the citizens are "all right",  & as soon as your letter was rec'd announcing my departure, a
