decent organization was effected, by which every member is bound to render every aid in his power, to both the civil & military authorities, in their efforts to maintain order.  

It is highly important that the men I have arrested, should be held, & above all not allowed to escape. The jail at Mt Pleasant is a secure one, & I have written Maj. Claflin requesting that great vigilance be exercised in guarding it. Please write immediately to him, & direct the same thing, & especially warn him against allowing the prisoners to be bailed out, or paroled. 

I have written to Boston, to your brother, but have recd no reply, & can give you no definite intelligence in reference to the late difficulty.

The Registration is progressing very well. I shall give this matter my attention immediately.
