Lieut,

A report is current that the man "Guest" was killed about a week ago at Bonham in Lamar Co. Though I am unable to vouch for the reliability of this report, yet it appears probable that it is correct. It seems that a party of three or four of the desperadoes had formed a plan to rob the town of Bonham during the night, & in order to insure success had procured the services of a negro to reconnoitre, and intrusted him with the secret of their design, which he imparted to citizens of the town, who ambushed the party as it approached killing one man dead. The person supposed to be "Guest" was found the next day near the scene of the affair, by a teamster, & the negro before mentioned pronounced the body to be this corpse of "Guest"

I have as yet been unable to perfect the charges against Duty or Whitsill, but every day
