In obedience to Orders, issued from Head Quarters Washington City D.C. appointing me an Agent Bureau R.F & A.L. & directing me to report, as so assigned, to you [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] in command of 5th Mily Dist. I beg leave to make the following statement. Leaving Baltimore Oct. 16th with transportation to Galveston Texas, I pursued the course indicated by the ticket furnished me from Washington, and only delayed in consequence of the epidemic prevailing in Memphis for a few days about Fifty miles north of that City by direction of Physicians who forbade my travelling until the Fever there raging should subside. On my arrival at Galveston I found Head Quarters removed to Austin I through the kindness of Lieut C. Garrettson made an arrangement to procure $40 currency to bear me onward.
