a very worthy young man, for which he stands indicted in this Court. Capt Macky as reported in the papers went before the Reconstruction Committee, and gave his evidence in relation to the condition of this section of the State, and as reported his evidence was a tissue of falsehoods and perjuries and I so wrote to Col Grider a member of said Committee. I told Col Grider was guilty of perjury and ought to be indicted, and if indicted I would give [[strikethrough]] a score [[/strikethrough]] the names of a score of the best men in the County to prove the perjury. Unless Mackey is influenced by malice I cannot see why he should repeat his falsehood against this Community. If Gen Howard wishes to know whether credit should be given my statement I refer him to Hon James Guthrie of the Senate, and Hon. Aaron Harding and Hon Henry Grider of the H.R. I have made this Statement because I believe that Capt. Mackey intended evil against this Community.
