The undersigned are practicing attorneys in the District Court of Lamar County and state that the statements foregoing of Genl Rice Maxey in relation to the trial of Orange Bray are true.

Since writing the foregoing I have read the statement of Capt. Mackey as to the facts in relation to the assault and they are misstated.  It was in proof before the jury that Bray and his son were in the house and heard Orange near the window in a rage, they went out and Orange fell back to his own door, and afterwards advanced upon John Bray with an axe.  John Bray ran, and Orange ran after him and came near overtaking him when John Bray turned and shot him.
