Gentlemen,
Yours of the 4th inst is before me in which you as counsel for Doct Bell Irving and Mr. McCrary demand to know the charges against said parties & why they are kept under confinement &c. In reply, I will state that I am alone accountable to my supperior officer Genl Griffin for their arrest and to no other. I respectfully refuse to forward to you at this time my testimony in the premises.
