Sundry copies of reports of sub com'r of the Bureau, and other persons touching the treatment of freedmen, by the whites, has been kindly furnished me from your Hd. Qrs.

The information thus conveyed will enable the civil authorities to ferret out wrong doers, and will afford an opportunity to correct groundless or highly colored statements.

While I am ready to acknowledge that many wanton wrongs are perpetrated upon the black people, yet I cannot but mention it as a singular fact, that while it is notorious that the blacks themselves commit many wrongs, and offer many provocations, still there is scarcely a mention of such occurrences; and it seems to be taken for granted that they are a guileless, unoffending, and immaculate race.

I am obliged for the papers sent, and will thank you for copies of all similar ones.  I will regard it as an especial duty to aid the officers of the Bureau in the ferreting out and punishment of all who violate and offend against this Class of
