soon as I ascertain, what the War Department will do for us in allowing enlistment of teachers, so as to cover their expenses. I shall proceed on my mission to New York. The reason I wait, is, that my efforts at New York with the Association, will be affected by the success or failure of the said plan. 

I feel very sad at the want of consideration given to the Freedmen, in their present ignorant condition. It seems as though it was not desirable in the opinion of some officials, that these poor freedmen, should be placed in a position to pick up a few crumbs
