as teachers being even of a greater importance and value to the public interest, than can possibly result in any other channel of employment.

Should the subject of special enlistment for the duty mentioned, be unfavorably viewed, possibly the want might be provided for by enlisting 100 men for troops in Texas, of a higher class than generally the custom; the duty being made known, and the men to be detached from the respective companies, and placed in the Bureau for distribution as teachers; but should this latter idea be adopted, the commutation allowances, required, will have to be ordered from the War Department.
