Revd. Mr. Whipple cannot be disabused, neither the Officers of the Association, of this unfavorable feeling towards Mr. Wheelock. It is not rumor, report, or ex parte statement with them. They are fully persuaded, that they know the man from a thorough trial, and dearly bought experience, and they decline any connection with him whatever - their trial of him was in connection with Mr. Plumley now in Galveston, who is equally bitter and hostile with Mr. Wheelock against the Association.

Mr. Whipple stated to me, that he made a short time since a visit personally to the following gentlemen, to ascertain exactly their views with regard to Mr. Wheelock, wishing, that should there by anything favorable to the man it might be secured to the Association, to defend, so far as it would, his holding such an important relation to the work of the Association in Texas, it appearing to be General Griffins purpose to
