retain him in the labor, notwithstanding the earnest wishes of the western branch of the Association to the contrary. These gentlemen were General's Gregory and Kiddoo, - both unqualifiedly expressed their opinion of the lack of energy, and proper appreciation of the School work on the part of Mr. Wheelock, noticeable under their respective administrations of the Bureau in Texas, believed him hostile and bitterly opposed to the Association as an evangelical Institution, and stated, that his retention could only prove detrimental, and work unfavorable results.

Revd. Mr. Whipple presented the matter to Maj. Gen. Howard, who promised, that the subject of removal of Mr. Wheelock should be at once considered.

The Association have waited for this removal, but they notice, that Mr. Wheelock is retained as Inspector of Schools, makes the reports as usual, and publishes his characteristic letters.
