After a thorough and careful consideration of this feature of the conference, I am decided, that your true policy, is at once to allow Mr. Wheelock to be transferred to other duty, and if possible assigned to a new station. You cannot afford, in view of the importance of the considerations involved, to love the hearty co-öperation of the Association, which you can not certainly expect to have, retaining longer on your Staff, one of its bitterest foes (so regarded by the Officers) in a position, where he can direct and control in a great measure its teachers, and the School work. It is not of enough importance to you, whether Mr. Wheelock is misunderstood by the Association or not, neither can you be expected to argue this subject at any length with the Association. It is simply a question, whether it is more profitable to dispense with Mr. Wheelock's services, and secure the Association fully to your assistance, or retain
