I believe I have impressed the Association with the truth, that you earnestly desire to cooperate with its officers, in the mission work in Texas; and as earnestly desire, that the Association shall freely and heartily coöperate with you, but, I cannot forbear saying, that as an earnest of this disposition on your part, - while the Association does not exact or even request it, as a condition of their active assistance the coming School year, - it would be politic and right, to remove Mr. Wheelock from further connection with School matters, and education of the freedmen, in Texas.

With regard to Mr. Allen Asst. Supdt. &c., the Association at New York knew but little. I found he was as much of a stranger to them as myself. I think his conduct and efforts with the Society at New York, very commendable, and all that you could
