St. Louis.

My dear Mr. Ushikubo:--

A letter has come this morning from your New York house, containing the power of attorney about which you and I spoke when you were here. It is in proper order, and I shall file the same with my papers, unless you prefer that it should be returned to you. If you desire the document, don't fail to say so, and I will have a copy of it made to be filed with the promissory note.

I have also received from New York with your compliments a beautiful Korean pottery jar. It is a rare specimen, and one I am particularly glad to have. The painted decorations of the jar seem to me the most skillfully done of any of the sort I have thus far seen. It was characteristic of you to think of me in connection with this beautiful piece of pottery, and I want you to feel that I keenly appreciate your goodness.

You are having a fine time in St. Louis, I trust, and are keeping well during these warm days, I hope.
