Detroit, Michigan,
April 29th, 1904.

Dear Mr. Eddy:--

This morning's mail brought the enclosed letter from Mr William Webb, who is the legal adviser of Miss. Birnie-Philip, also the copy of a letter written by Mr. Webb to Mr. W. Heinemann, dated March 19th, 1904, all of which is sent for your information, with the hope that you will kindly turn them over to Mr. Dyrenforth.

This correspondence grows out of the request contained in Mr. Dyrenforth's letter of March 19th, asking for information concerning the circulation of English printed copies of "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies", in America, and I hope it covers the ground.

May I say, in answer to Mr. Webb's inquiry, that the edition of "The Gentle Art" now being sold in this country by Messrs. Putnam contains the following copyright notice:--

Copyright, 1890.
by J. McNeill Whistler.
Printed 1890.
Reprinted 1892.
Reprinted 1903.
