Respectfully returned to Maj. Gen'l. A. C. Gillem. USA. Asst. Commr for the State of Miss. inviting attention to enclosed affidavit of Jim Sanders (Col) Dept Gatlin states that he never arrested Jim. Sanders. nor had no authority to arrest him he merely told him (Sanders) if he did not return he would have him arrested and carried back to Miss.

States under oath that during the year 1868, one F Devers resident of Pulaski Giles Co Tenn became indebted to him to the amount of two hundred dollars ($20.00) in Gold and Silver  A receipt was given for this Money to his wife who was living with Mr Devers. Plaintiffs wife died during the year 1862. The receipt fell into the hands of Said Devers,  In August 1865 Acknowleged his indebtness in the Presence of Capt Hall Bureau Officer at Pulaski Tenn. and promised to pay Plantiff when he Devers sold his Cotton, Capt Hall relieved and the case went into the hands of one Jackson his (Hall) Successor in Office then to. R. Caldwell he Caldwell handed the paper over to Lieut Jones Bureau Officer at Cortland Ala, whose receipt for the same is inclosed. Futher States that Devers has moved from Pulaski Tenn to Cortland Ala and is doing well and able to pay this note  respt'y submit the case for investigation
