I got excited and expressed myself pretty precisely on the subject of encroaching on the Elliott Medal Fund, perhaps a little too strongly; still they knew I meant no offense to any one personally. We were there until 12 o'clock - Today have painted all day, have not even been out of doors. It has been a mild day. Finished my water color and put in a whole lot of figures of children in my landscape very successfully I think, Mr. Folsom called bringing with him Ned Baker - Went up to Giffords room and found Mary there. Sanford sick with a cold. He dined with me. Wrote to Gertrude.

Thursday Feb. 25" 1875. Sara, Mary Gifford and I dined with Sanford yesterday and went to see the Shaughraun which makes the third time I have seen it and that will suffice. Today has been most dismal. I took a walk in the morning and bought some little trinkets for the baby. The rest of the day I painted and Gifford, Hall and I dined with Fitch in his room as at that time the rain was pouring in buckets. Mary Vaux went up to Rondout today to spend a weekend. May Gifford has gone there to stay with Sara. Mr. Lincoln D. Wright came to see me today. Wrote to Gertrude from whom I received a letter this morning.

Monday March 1. 1875.
I went home on Saturday. It snowed furiously when I left but the storm cleared off when the train got to Tarrytown. At Rhinebeck where the train was half an hour late Maurice met me. A freight train moved down and cut us off for 20 minutes longer. It was very cold riding on the river but the glowing wood fire at home soon thawed me out. It had snowed there nearly all day. It was so pleasant at home. The baby bashfully awaited the opening of my valise and went off in triumph with the whip and bells I took him. May was there enjoying her winter visit. Sunday was bright and cold and we had a sweet home day enough to bless the whole week. This morning it was snowing again. Maurice drove me over to the Gifford train and at 1 I was in my studio. Lilly and Uncle Charles came down. Eastman came in and spent an hour with me while the snow came down outside like mid-winter. Fitch, Hall and I dined with Gifford in his
