had been received from Lucy who had arrived safely and was settled in her new home after her long journey. 

Monday June 28. 1875. The weather has been very hot. After breakfast I went to work to repaint on a new canvas the picture of the "Christmas Greens" During the operation the unfortunate original fell and sustained an additional disaster in the shape of a nick across the face. I made a beginning but am not at all sanguine as to the result. Sunday I wrote to Booth and to Mary.

Thursday July 1. 1875
Pa's brothers left for home on Wednesday morning. Uncle Philip had not been well and looked very feeble. I think they all felt this was the last time they would ever come here as they are very old men. My father went with them as far as Uncle Philips. I have nearly finished my picture and I think in some respects it is better than the original one. Had a nice letter from Booth inviting us to visit him which we mean to do. Wrote to Eastman Johnson and received a letter from Mr. Stafford. 

[[erased]] Friday 2. [[/erased]] A cool delightful day. Painted in the forenoon and after dinner took a long walk down by Steep Rocks and home by the Roatina. 

Friday 2. Sara, Gertrude, Maurice and I drove up to High Falls by Lucas' Turnpike, called on Annie Norton and came home through Stone Ridge stopping under a tree to eat our lunch. It is beautiful about Stone Ridge and I should like to make some sketches about there. Stopped and looked along the Kingston Creek in Marbletown where I mean to go to make some sketches. Got home about 4 o'clock and found Bouyer, Fred Stedman and Arthur Thatcher here. Sara received a long letter from Lucy giving
