Sunday Aug. 1 1875.
A cool beautiful day. Irving Putnam and I took a walk around by the Steep Rocks and returned by the Roatina. Wrote to Girard and sent him a certified check for $22 which Arthur Burhans paid me for him.

Monday 2. Rained all day. Fred and Irving were to go by the Powell but took the 9.44 train instead. Went to the Strand to see Joe Tubby about our going out to Stamford as we had talked about on Saturday but his daughter is sick and I did not see him. Sent Girards letter and had the check certified. My Father and Mother were to drive over through Rhinebeck for us on Saturday but the weather looked so threatening that they did not come and so we came home by Pokeepsie where the races are going on. Found Haven Putnam here. He came up on Thursday and hoped he could have a walk with me out into the country. We have arranged to go out to Griswolds for a day or two, tomorrow. Found letters from Joe and Susie about the picture which had arrived, one from Platt on Booths business and a note from Joe Tubby telling me of the continued severe illness of his daughter. Today have written Booth and Platt. Gertrude had a letter from Mrs. Batchelder cordially inviting us to come and spend a week or two with them at the sea shore at their little cottage at Magnolia on Cape Ann.

Thursday 12." Haven Putnam and I went out to Shokan by the 7.30 train on Monday and walked into Griswolds through the gulf reaching there about 6 o'clock. It was a beautiful
