of the Academy. Lydig [[?]] called with some Boston ladies, one a Miss Ticknor. Mr. Ludington called also Fitch who told me of the birth of a son now nearly a week old. Albert Crane called also. This evening I dressed myself and called on Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Tolles and a friend came in while I was there. From there went to call at Frank Week's but they were out so being near the Stoddards I called there for half an hour as naturally as possible and then came home to the relief of both of them I imagine Wrote to Gertrude. The weather continues delightful Thus far we have had no snow.

Thursday Jan. 27. 1876. It was snowing and sleeting when I awoke and altogether one of the citys dark dismal days but toward night it cleared off. I did not go out but worked on Mr. Hoes picture and finished the little one I am going to give to the Academy. Hubbard came in and I showed him my picture of the falling leaves which he liked exceedingly and said he would like to have Mr. McComb use it who bought his large picture whereupon he sat down and wrote a note to him asking him to come to see it tomorrow at 10 o'clock. Later in the day he brought ex Governor Stewart of Vermont in to see my pictures He seemed quite struck with them as phases of the Autumn he had never before seen painted. He looked at them a long time and seemed impressed with their truth and I think I could have sold him the little one I have set apart for the Academy. Mr. Hoe called later and was so pleased with his picture that he has concluded to keep it. I told him I had painted it all over and he was more than ever inclined to keep it. I told him to consult only his own inclination. He wants my large one and I hope he will eventually buy it. Wood came in. I told him of the picture I was going to give to the Academy and he wants to do the same and will if he can do one in time. After dinner dressed and called on Annie Norton and Lilie. Fred had gone up to the country. Wrote to Lucy and sent a suggestion to the Centennial board regarding the labels on the boxes.
