Wednesday Feb. 13, 1878. I meant to go and see Dr. Julius today but I felt so well I concluded not to. Lily McEntee called and also Mr. George Cooper. He assured me people have the greatest hesitancy about coming to artists studios for fear of interrupting them. He seemed to think it quite surprising that I depended on selling my pictures to people who came to my room. The more I think of it the more I am curious of the necessity of some business management for the sale of our pictures. The whole thing is changing. No one comes to the studios now. Received a letter from Gertrude and wrote to her.

Thursday 14. Made a little sketch of an idea I have had for several years. "The Wings of the Morning" It was not successful. Dined with Gifford. Mary was there. Wrote to Gertrude after I got home.

Friday 15. Called on Nash. Wanted to sell me an opal which he said was worth $300 for one of my pictures.  He was here today and selected my Hersey Hill (12 x 20) and will give me the opal set for it without the frame. I am to take it up to show Gertrude and if she likes it I think I will trade. Made another design today which is better but not what I want.

Monday, 18. Went to see Booth in Richard II on Friday evening taking Burger with me. Did not go as well as usual in the first of the play. Visiting him in his dressing room found him very much exasperated because the hairs of his false beard came off and got into his mouth and choked him.
