Tuesday Feb. 19, 1878 Went to work immediately after breakfast and did not go for my usual walk. Booth was to come but did not. Henry brought his Richard suit. Mark came for his opal. I told him I had concluded not to take it. Bayer showed it to Mr. Marcus last night and he said it was not worth even $100 and if I wanted to sell it could not get half that. Worked all day on studies for my picture. I made a pearly opalescent sketch to which I incline although it is not as effective as if it were darker. Calverts card came out in the Tribune this morning. I was shocked at first but he means was and perhaps it is as well to begin vigorously. Eastman called. They propose a driver to Taylor of a few personal friends. Chuck called. Gave him the palette my father made for him Have not heard from my father today and am anxious about him. Spent the evening at Taylors. Mr. Bancroft from Wilmington was there. Lily came down today. She has left Vaux to go abroad with them. Bancroft said Taylors name was sent to the Senate today as soon as he is confirmed he will go to Washington and then he will know when he has to leave. Wrote to Gertrude.

Wednesday 20. Have not felt well today but have worked in my studios for my picture but not with much success. Pinchot is going to try to bring it
