There were some speeches and after dinner we took a ride. Returning stopped at Weirs house and had supper and spent a couple of hours with the ladies, Mrs. Weir and Lily and Mrs. French. Weir has a charming old fashioned house very prettily furnished. We came home by 8 oclock train. They pressed me to stay over night and were disappointed that I could not but I had an engagement with Booth at 91/2 clok today. He did not come however but sent me word his wife was ill. This is Decoration Day. I saw some of the war regiments in 5" Av this morning with their tattered flags. Great preparations had been made and much interest manifested but it has been a rainy day, a part of the time raining hard. Wrote to Gertrude and to Weir.

Monday June 3. 1878. Booth came on Saturday and I commenced McBeth. Saturday afternoon I went up to Alpine with Burger via Yonkers. It rained a little but we did not get wet. Sunday Mary and I drove up to Tappan by Sparkill and visited the place where Andre was executed in 1780. The old house is still standing in a very dilapidated condition where he was confined during the court martial, only two days I believer. We also visited the old house where Washington had his headquarters for nearly six months. The parlor he occupied is as it was at that time. There is a broad fireplace surrounded with tiles and evidently the same floor that he walked upon. Our visit was a most interesting one as it was a spot I had always wanted to visit. It was a grey day but the country was charming in its spring beauty. It rained a little on our return. I came down this morning
