with Calvert and Booth came and I got on with Macbeth. I hope to finish the series this week and go home. Had a call from a Mrs. Carlton of Buffalo and a clergyman from up the river. Wrote to Gertrude.

Tuesday June 4 1878. Booth sat for Lear which is the last of the series. Have had a number of callers lately, more than at any time during the past winter. Dined with Gifford. Mary was there.

Wednesday 5. Sara and Julia came down from Rondout today and she and Mary came to see me. It has been a cool beautiful day. Booth sat for Lear. The Gilbert Elevated R.R. began to run regularly today. Spent the evening at Eastman Johnsons.

Saturday 8. Had a headache all day. Booth came and I intended to finish my characters but I felt so badly I could do nothing. All are done now except a few little corrections and alterations which I can do in half a day. Thursday and Friday I worked on the Lear and on one or two of the others.

Tuesday 11. Went home Saturday by 6 oclock train. Had a headache and fell asleep in my chair and missed the Powell. Rainy day. Came down Monday by day boat. Rained and was cold. Went to the club last night. Booth came today for the last time and I worked on Iago and made some changes in Richard II and Ruy Blas and now they are all done! After a year and a half. A better knowledge of the figure would have made them more interesting but after all they will be valuable in the future as showing how a great actor actually looked and how he dressed the parts. I am packing up now and meaning to try to go home tomorrow for the summer. I am able to pay all my bills and that is all. I want to arrange a studio over the carriage home which will cost about $100 but dont feel justified in doing it. I do everything except attend
