was so sad and lonely after my departure. How real this all seems and how I seem almost to have been with her after I have read her loving letters. What shall I do after I have read them all. I brought John Andrews to my room on Sunday and had a long talk with him. 

Tuesday 17. John Andrews and I drove up to Eddyville or rather opposite there to see the devastation made by the flood. The whole creek has burst through at the guard lock devastating the whole flat and carying away houses, barns, boats & every thing in its track. We came home by Greenkill. It was quite cold. Have been very busy all afternoon about many little things and feel extremely nervous. We began the curtains for the parlor. I cut out the trimmings from what I bought in N.Y. The curtains are what Gertrude and I bought several years ago. Had a letter from Nash inquiring about pictures. Answered it. I go to Boston tomorrow via Rhinebeck & Connecticut R.R.

Wednesday 18. Started for Boston by way of Rhinebeck and Connecticut R.R. by the 10.30 fery boat. At State Line the Connecticut Western train to Hartford. A charming ride through a very varied and picturesque country. At Hartford had one hour and a half to wait. Had my dinner and got on the train for Boston from N.Y. via Springfield & Worcester. Arrived in Boston at 10.30 and staid at the Parker House 

Thursday 19. Went out to College Hill after breakfast. They had expected me the night before and were glad to see me. After dinner went over to Cambridge to see Cranch. He and Carrie had gone to a concert in Boston but saw Mrs. Cranch and had a very satisfactory call. Miss Adams (her cousin) and her mother were calling there. We had met her several years ago at Mrs. Morrells.

Friday 20. Cold. Went in to Boston and called on the Bachelders. They had just moved in from the country and were very pleased to see me. Mr. B. recovering from his lameness. Saw in the morning paper the announcement of Taylors death in Berlin yesterday. I was prepared for it. I never expected to see him again but hardly looked for his death so soon. I though most sadly

This looks like "Berlin" - as place of Taylor's death - it is near the bottom of page. IT IS BERLIN. Taylor was in BERLIN. I JUST SAW HIS OBITUARY A FEW PAGES PAST THIS.
