Have persisted on the little head and think I am improving it. Fitch came up for a while. He was suffering great pain in one of his ears. He has great domestic trouble with his wifes father. Fred Norton called and Gifford to invite me to dinner tomorrow to meet Mary. Mr. Lane called to see about his Turner. I am going to send it to the Century tomorrow. Went to the Trustees meeting of the Century this evening. Dr. Bellows Vice Pres. met with us for the first time. Had another letter from Sara wanting me to come up tomorrow or Saturday morning as they are going to invite Mrs. Baldwin there but I have concluded not to go up this week but stay to the Century monthly meeting. Wrote to Sade this evening. Girard lunched with me today and went home. Fred Stedman came to Marys this evening. Showed us photographs of his lady love. Old Mr. Hasbrouck was buried today and my father was one of the bearers.

Friday Feb. 28. 1879. A letter from Mrs. Cogswell this morning. She speaks of Carrie Wilkins as having been very gay in Washington at balls and parties and that she and her parents are coming to New York some time during Lent. Calvert and I went up to the Art Museum in the Park directly after breakfast. It was very cold, must have been one of the coldest mornings of the winter. We walked down to 59" St when I left Calvert and came down by the Elevated Rail road. Booth and his wife came just before noon and I painted on Ruy Blas and fixed it to Mrs. Booths satisfaction. Painted again on the head of Gertrude but my work seems experimental. Sent my picture "Clouds" to the Century today and also Mr. Lanes Turner. Dined with Gifford. Mary was there and Miss Hillard, a bright interesting woman. I was cheerful and talkative and find it most grateful to be drawn out of myself. Left a little after 9 and went down to Booths where I staid and talked until after 11. Mrs. Booth, Edwina and Miss Nichols had gone to the theatre, returning just as I came away.

Saturday March 1. 1879
Weir came in for a little while. Painted some on the head but do not improve it. Went to the Century monthly meeting. A very good display of pictures. My picture "Clouds" seemed to be liked by the artists. Colman spoke to me about it as my best picture. A number of people spoke to me about it. Avery was near me several times. He has not seen me since Gertrude died and he avoided me. I was not sorry for he is one of those insincere persons I would rather not meet.
