Thursday Jan. 1 1880.
A bright winter day. Sara, Gussie and Gertrude Tomkins received calls of which [[they 18 or 20.?]] I spent a part of the afternoon in my room writing a long letter to Weir. Have been greatly depressed today. Partly I think because I am going back tomorrow. Still I went down stairs to see more of the callers. We all eat in the Parlor after our supper and talked of Gertrude and immortality. I love to speak of her and my comprehension and admiration of her beautiful character increases from day to day.
