them to their sweet hearts. My visit was nearly spoiled by a hulking young fellow who seemed to think that to be entertaining it was necessary to be nasty and obscene. They had dinner while we were there and plates were set for us and we were pressed to eat but declined on account of having just breakfasted. Left about noon and ran down nearly all the way to Midway by paddle. There was a slight mist but no rain. The little town looked dismal as we approached, with a few of the men standing around in their Sunday clothes The first man I saw was Tim with his jaws tied up. He told me Eastman got down all right and he sent him to Malta that night. Had a fire built in my room and took a nice hot bath after which I had a comfortable supper. At the table the young man in the Post office handed me a nice long letter from Eastman. I have written him an additional sheet. Have not packed my things which are not but shall do it tomorrow and have Royal take me down to Malta.
