Saturday Dec. 9 1882. Painted today but not very satisfactorily on a new picture. Church called. Have not seen him or heard of him in a long time. He looks old but seemed in good spirits. Went home by 4 o'clock train. Bowyer went with me. Found Downing somewhat improved but he seemed dull and silent. He is to sail on Tuesday to join the Booth party in England and Wheeler is going to accompany him. Found my father poorly.

Sunday 10. Bowyer and I walked over to the tunnel on the West Shore Road and along the line to the new station in Kingston. It snowed a little last night and I got my feet very wet. Park was delighted to see Bowyer and knew him in a moment and showed the greatest joy last night in seeing him. The wintry landscape is charming and I want to stop here to walk about and make notes. My father is very feeble.

Monday 11. A grey day with a little snow. Mary, Downing and I came down on the noon train. My father was lying down and asleep when we left but he looks very feeble and frail. Mrs. Roosa came down with us a very pretty interesting woman. Made an ineffectual attempt to call on Mrs. Church who is staying at Mr. Osbornes. Thought I could go directly to the house but took the precaution to look in the directory which misdirected me. Rang at three houses and finally gave it up and called on Mrs. Wilson whom I have not seen in two years. She is suffering from rheumatism but persisted in talking about Mrs. Gifford and her troubles with Sanfords family.

Tuesday 12. Bade Downing goodbye at breakfast. He goes on board the ship tonight and I will not see him again. Painted on a little winter. Mrs. Hewitt from Milwaukee called. Is going to sail on the Servia. I gave her a card to Downing. A note from Mrs. Gifford who wants me to send her a little picture to sell on commission. Attended the dinner of the G.B. Club which was very pleasant. These were present, Judge Sedgwick, Mr. Gordon, Collins, McDonough, Marbury, Dr. Otis, Dr. Noyes, Woolsey Johnson, Butler, Nash, Mr. Lord and myself. I came to my room through 13" St, infested with women of the town.

Wednesday 13. Downing sailed I presume at 7 this morning. It has been a dark rainy day and I have worked all day on a water color. Wrote to Mrs. Gifford that I would send her a little picture. Wrote to Sara that Calvert was going up with me on Saturday. I called to see Alice in the evening.

Thursday 14. Finished my water color and began a little picture 12 x 20 of an idea I got while visiting Whittredge at Summit partly as a study for a larger picture. Alice called and I spent the evening with her at Freds. My Indian Summer went to Philadelphia. Attended reception at Mrs. DeForests.

Friday 15. Painted all day and have nearly completed my little picture. Went to the club a little while and then to my room.
