Friday May 11" 1883. Running about all forenoon doing errands. Fuller came in and sat a while. Liked his picture and I am to send it off to him when the frame comes. Dined with the Artists at the Italian place. I dont like the place. It is too rude. From there went to the club a little while.

Saturday 12" Downing and I went to Rondout by 3.30 train. He was in his usual spirits and pleased with the idea of going to the country to remain. I invited his confidence which he gives me. My mother has known nothing about his going away. Found Mrs. Davis there to my surprise. She evidently has no intention of leaving as we supposed she would and hoped she would.

Sunday 13. A windy day. Downing and I walked across the high bridge. There were some scary gaps but we got over without trouble and walked down the track a mile when we followed a pleasant path along the base of Hussey Hill returning by South Rondout ferry. We talked freely about his affairs and he says he will confide in me hereafter which I think he will. The country is charming now. The cherries are in bloom and the apple trees soon will be. I ought to be there painting.

Monday 14. Downing and I walked up to the new station at Kingston and went through it returning by the track to Jacobs Valley and home across Ports farm. He wrote to Edwina. Cousin Rachel is there and Sara is gradually cleaning house. I trimmed the vine over the back porch. Yesterday we went to the Cemetery and I was delighted to see that the sweet brier I set out on dear Gertrudes grave last spring is leafing out vigorously and looks strong and healthy. I came down by the evening train and found a letter from Alice inquiring about Downing which I answered and mailed.

Tuesday 15. Arranged my pictures for the summer and worked on various things towards getting ready to leave. A meeting of the Artists Mutual Aid Society in Woods room. Adopted an amendment to the Constitution in which a willingness to take charge of a deceased members artistic effects is embodied. Dilman, Bristol, Story, McCord and F.S. Church were elected members. Calvert and I went to see the Black Crook at the Grand Opera house. Nothing very good.
