Left by morning train for Spokan. Brice's team was ready to take me to W.S. Fullers on the Rondout and stopped at Wards cabin at the lake. Mrs. Wentworth, Mrs Dimoch and two other ladies were there. Ward and the other gentlemen went to N.Y. the day before. Arrived at Fullers at 1.30 Some Fisherman there for dinner, among them Mr. Geo. Hope a friend of Vanderlip.

Monday 13. Went up the stream and made two sketches morning & afternoon

Thursday 14 Went down stream but found nothing but a jungle of willows. Then went up where I was yesterday and after looking around a long time finally sit to work feeling much discouraged. Am afraid I am not going to find as much here as I hoped to. I was afraid I would be lonely here and if I cannot find good sketching shall have to leave, but where else to go I do not know.

Friday 15. Took a walk up the Nest Branch this morning about two or three miles to a pretty waterfall hoping to find some interesting places along the stream. All the timber gone. Passed the weeks of wrecks of these saw mill in the way. Came back with a discouraged feeling and almost made up my mind to go home. Those pests still stick to me. The most unaccountable things in the wide world. About ten oclock took my box and went up the stream where I made a sketch and drew in another subject, and felt better this evening and I always do after a day of work. A man is stopping here who is going to drive to Kingston tomorrow. I have written a letter to Sara. And reading Mrs. Carlyes letters. Some things about them reminds me of my dear Gertrude.
