Saturday [[strikethrough]] Oct. [[/strikethrough]] Sept. 12" 1884.
Calvert and I left for Mink Hollow on the noon hour. At [[strikethrough]] Phoenic [[/strikethrough]] Mt Pleasant got Cockburn to take us up to Wilburs where we arrived at 4. Found there Mr. Swain & family who were here last year. It was a fine brisk day with a N.W. wind. Took a walk up to our camp of a year ago. Every thing just as we left it except that a thick growth of fire weed had sprung up where our tents were and our fire was built.

Sunday 14"
Frost last night and cold this morning. We explored the Hutchins hollow back as far as Hasbrucks mill where the stream divides and found nothing interesting. Hasbrucks son yesterday was thrown from a cart upon a scythe he was carrying and cut a part of his knee pad away. A man we met near there, a neighbor who had watched with him last night said he was an excellent young man and the staff of an aged and invalid father. I was awakened this morning by some one rousing up Mrs. Miller to come and see a sick baby in the next house. It is very ill and they think it will not get well. We went up to the camp & beyond. I went alone above where I get the study for Fullers picture. It looked so different. The woods are green and monotonous. Our camp looked lonely and forlorn and told me of a happy experience gone. I could not bear to be there alone and have felt a little sad even with Calvert here. We have good wines and good bread but it is cold and no fire to go to except the kitchen. The Swains went home
