It rained a little this afternoon and there seemed to be rain all about us, but this evening it seems to be clearing.

Monday June 29" 1885. My Father and I drove down town shortly after breakfast and then out on the Saugerties road as far as Sanders where we turned in along the edge of the road and returned by Deacon Osterhoudts. The wind was from the N.W. and there was a fresh feeling in the air after the little shower of yesterday. We stopped at the West Shore station on our return and saw Tom McEntee who had gone up to take the train on his way home. I have been busy about a thousand things this afternoon, and am tired. Sara and I start for Wilbers in Mink Hollow early tomorrow morning. I am going out to make a sketch on the brook for Mrs. Warrens picture. It is cool tonight and the wind N.W. There is almost a fall feeling in the air. Received a letter from Weir today, and a postal card from Mr. Kimball of Midway saying Royal Reed is still living there and that he will speak to him about my having written to him. I wonder why he does not write.

✓ Wednesday July 1" 1885.
Sara and I started at 5 o'clock yesterday morning for Wilbers in Mink Hollow. The morning promised fairly but before we reached Woodstock where we breakfasted the wind blew a gale from the North. We reached Wilbers at 10 oclock, and leaving our horse there we went directly up the stream, having a lunch with us, and by 11 o'clock I was at work on the sketch I came out to make. After I had finished it we walked up to our camp of two years ago, and coming down I caught a few trout. The wind howled through the valley and after we got back to the house it was so cold I was obliged to go out to the kitchen fire to get warm. The wind lulled in the night but has blown most of the day today, though not nearly so violently. We went to the same place on the stream after breakfast and I made another sketch. We had our dinner at 1 and left at 2 for home coming by way of the Sawkill road and the new reservoir and crossing the Kingston Creek at the ford reached home at 6. The wind was with us a great part of the way and we were covered with dust but we had a pleasant trip in spite of the wind. Found a telegram from Fuller wanting me to meet him at my studio today which Mary answered telling him I was absent for a couple of days. Also a letter from Royal Reed not at all decisive. I think I will have to go up there, also a note from Mr. Kenyon.

Thursday 2" The weather continues very cool. Took my father to Rondout and Kingston. Spent the afternoon painting a little study for a picture from my sketches just made. Called at the Centuries this evening.

Friday 3. Still cool weather and a slight shower with fine rich atmosphere. Spent the forenoon doing many things. Took my father out later in the day to see the arrival of the Hartford City Guards on their way to the Grand Hotel. They were received and escorted by the Kingston 14th. Separate Co. We drove up to the City Hall and saw them pass. Downing came this evening. Had a letter from Fuller wanting me to come down next week and I have written him
