[[?]] 100 ft deep for $75 a foot just what I offered Sam Cuykendall our place for with the buildings on it and 500 feet deep. It goes far toward convincing me that he had come other [[?]] for not buying it. I wrote to Nett Sterling while I was at home. Friday 19" it snowed very fast for a time and then ceased. In the night we had a violent storm with long continued thunder and lightning. Saturday Mary came up and Mr & Mrs. Cantine came and spent the evening with us. A very affectionate letter came from Laura to my father and a bucket of fruit which she sent him for his birthday and a beautiful box of flowers for him from Mrs. Crane and a letter from Mr. Sawyer.

Sunday 21"
My father 86" birthday anniversary, John & Nannie sent him some flowers and Henry D[[?]] called to see him. We had the anniversary dinner at 5 o'clock. Girard was prevented from coming by one of his violent headaches. There were present, my father, Mary, Sara, Girards wife, Mrs. Davis, Mary Goetchins and myself. We had a delicious linkey and a bottle of wine from Portugal which Alice gave me. John & Nannie came up and spent the evening.

Monday March 22" 1886.
It rained during the evening but snowed a little in the night and the landscape was very Novemberish this morning. I feel so much improved that I came back to New York on the noon train. Saw no ice in the river and vessels here and there. The City of Kingston came up to Rondout on Saturday and is to begin her regular trips this evening. It is cold and cheerless and I feel a little homesick and wish I could stay at home and do many things I would like to do there. Mrs. Custer who is going or has gone on a trip to Mexico has sent me his ticket to the 19" century club for Tuesday evening. I wrote her a note and finished Nett Sterlings letter and will mail it tonight.

KELLY - At her residence in this city, Saturday, March 20, Elizabeth D., widow of William Kelly, late of Ellershe Rhineoech, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2d-ave, and 11th-st., on Tuesday, 23d inst., at 3 o'clock.

After dinner called at the Platts. Dick was going to Dakota tonight. The weather is cold and cloudy. I am not well but am feeling better than last week.

Tuesday 23.
Painted on the portrait of Gertrude I gave to Mrs. Sawyer and which I brought home from Boston with me but I fear I have not improved it and wish I had let it alone. Marion and I attended the 19" Century club where Genl, Porter Mr. Conway, Mrs may Putnam Jacobi and Kate Field discussed the comparative usefulness of men and women. Mrs. Jacobi was very clever and Mr. Conway also. Genl Porter full of anecdotes as usual and Kate Field also as usual. Mr. Howells when I met there took a great fancy to Marion and asked me if I knew who she was. Met Mrs. You[[?]] and Mr. Conway who introduced me to his wife. The evening closed with refreshments in the lower gallery and was very enjoyable.
