Death of Two Well Known Men.

Word was received in Rondout yesterday that William Hathaway had died at the residence of his son at Chester Pa., and that the remains would be brought here for interment. Mr. Hathaway for a number of years was in charge of the business of the Pennsylvania Coal Company, at Port Ewen. [[/clipping]]

went to Baltimore yesterday to visit Julia and Harry for a few days. The weather is cold, ice formed last night. Girard told me Tom is getting the garden ready to be made and that he has started a hot bed. I spent the evening at Marys.

Saturday Apl. 14" 1888. I sent notices to the members of the Artists Mutual Aid Society today for a meeting at Woods Studio on Tuesday next at 3.30. I had a letter from Whittredge this morning saying he intended to invite the society out there this year for their outing to take a walk and to lunch at his house. My shirts, under clothes, Handkerchiefs, socks &c brought from the Keep manufacturing Co. and my new trunk all came today. Jay Smith the art agent of the Minneapolis exposition called today. I am to let him have Fred Nortons picture, "A Kaatskill Cliff" the Late Autumn 15x18 I am painting and one of my small pictures in a nice frame. I dined with several of the artists at a German place in 6" Av. where I lunch sometimes. There were there Wm. Hart, Dolph, Gay, Perry, Henry, Guy, Geo. B. Butler, Pope, Eaton & Ryder. We staid there until ten o clock when most of them went to the Club. I did not feel very well and came to my room after taking a walk up as far as 30" St.

Sunday 15". I came over to my room after breakfast and marked all my new underclothes, handkerchiefs &c and also painted my initial on my new trunk. There was no one at dinner except Mary, Sara and me. Calvert was at Hastings, Downing in Baltimore and Bonyer at Staten Island. Later in the afternoon Mary, Sara and I walked up town. We left Mary at 60" St and Sara a I walked on to 84" St and called upon the Cranchs. Mary brought Miss Cortis home to tea and she spent the evening with us which we enjoyed greatly as she is bright and agreeable. Mrs. Pychouska called in the afternoon. She dresses to make herself look older than she really is, but she is a bright, intelligent woman. The day has been still and cloudy but not warm. I got a note from Lily French today in answer to one I sent her a week ago inviting her and Mrs. Weir to go to the circus. She cannot find an evening, she is so very busy, would be delighted to go &c and I think she will when I ask her again. I came to my room early to do my chamber work as my woman has not made her appearance since Saturday. I wrote to Lucy this evening.

[[strikethrough]] Monday [[/strikethrough]] Tuesday 17" I got out my Study for the Danger Signal yesterday and today I have gone all over it and made a picture of it. I went up to Wilmurts and ordered a frame for it. Sara came in about 3 'oclock. She is going to Middleton tomorrow morning and is to visit the Wilkinsons at Pokeepsie, returning there tomorrow evening while I am to join her there Friday evening. We had a successful meeting of the Artists Mutual Aid Society this afternoon at Woods Studio to take action in the matter of Darleys death. We also amended the constitution, elected C. Y. Turner to fill Darlys vacant place and accepted Whittredges invitation to have an outing this year in the vicinity of Summit and to lunch at his house. I spent the evening at Marys and came to my room early to write up the record of todays meeting and to notify Turner of his election. A letter from Mr. Sawyer saying Alice is getting on well.

Wednesday 18" Sara left for home this morning but will go to Middleton
