Apl. 21". Sunday - Arrived in Washington from Mexico on the Monteguena Special just in time to catch the 11.20 train for N.Y. Easter Sunday and a beautiful day. Reached N.Y. about 6. Went to Marys where they were all at dinner including Marion who came from Baltimore yesterday, Bonyer and Agnes and Downing Sedgwick was in Washington and Sara had gone home a week ago. Staid there all night and the next morning.

Monday 22. Took the 9.55 W.S Train for home. The weather had grown colder. Found Sara at home, the garden partly planted and the trees all in bud and the cherry blossoms almost ready to come out. Went

Tuesday 23 down to mail some letters - one to Mr. F. N. Robertson, one to Mary Gifford one Gill and one to Devoe & Co paying small bill. Girard had sold a lot to a Miss Baker, next to Keatons and a friend of his.

[[strikethrough]] Tuesday [[/strikethrough]] Wednesday 24 The man came and ploughed the rest of the garden. The wind blows and it is very dusty. Whiting Knapp died yesterday. I wrote to Mrs. Church. Made out the deed for Miss Baker got John to sign it and have sent it to Calvert for his signature. Also sent renewal of Abbey Note for Calvert to sign which was done yesterday. Charlie Cantine and his little girl took tea with us last night. I talked freely with him about his wife which seemed a satisfaction to him. Tom is cleaning out the upper cistern in the bath room. It was full of water.
