man greatly enjoyed as it was the first fish we have had. Speculating around the camp fire after supper as to why I had caught and seen but one, Ben York suggested that this was their "spondin' season and that he had prob'ly sponded and was kind'a roamin round" - Eastman had had the camp all cleared up and made very comfortable and attractive but the wind blew directly into the tent and we could have no fire in front. The men had to build a fire on the sand below to cook our supper. We were hungry as bears and of course ate enormously. The result was I did not get to sleep until after midnight. I found I had too much covering and threw off half of it. Eastman snored and talked at a great rate and at last I dropped off

Friday 18" Wind lulled at midnight. Mild and still. Misty morning. Men drove a deer in. Shower and high wind. The dog drove a yearling buck into lake and the men caught it and brought it in on one of the birches. The poor little creature was terribly frightened and thrashed and tumbled about in the most terrified manner, in the lake and among the sand bleating piteously and panting with fright. Eastman photographed him and then they let him go. He leaped
