directly into a great pile of brush and debris then from the camp ground and made his way slowly up into the woods. Fred came up from Pemadumcook where he left his party, after his boots and Ben York and the dog went back with him. About 1 o'clock Royal and I started out to find another trout hole Ben York told us of at the foot of a fall in Pratt brook above the fork but when we got out around the point we found the wind so high we turned back concluding that even if we reached the place the fish would not bite in so high a wind. When we returned to camp Eastman said he must go home and we have concluded to start tomorrow and began packing the things we did not need.

Saturday 19" Packed up and got away before 9. A soft cloudy morning and calm. The old fellow with his old brich [[?]] and his old gun arrived at our camp just as we were about to leave and probably took possession. We were somewhat delayed getting down the rapids but we ran the last one at the entrance of Pemadumcook which had risen several feet since we came over. Had a fine, calm time clear down. Lunched at the fort and arrived at the dam to find a lumbermans party in possession. Went into camp on the opposite shore below the dam, an old camping ground, my particular horror. Had our pole beds and got snug by dark. Another party just behind us in which was a young minister with a couple of prospectors Albans, Hathaway and 

Sunday 20" Awake and up at daylight. Thick misty weather and S. wind. Hurried our packing, brakefastid and got off at 8. West Branch fully high. Walked down to head of Quakish. At the camp learned that the team had gone to Midway and no telling when it would be back. A young man and his guide from Moorehead had been here since yesterday noon. They finally lugged across as did the Hathaway party. Learned it was Mr. Hubber [[Huber]] the author of the map of this region. We made preparations to go into camp comfortably and have our supper and got well established by dark.

Monday 21" Very cold and windy night. The men suffered with cold and could not sleep. They turned out about 4 o'clock the moon coming up caused them to think it daylight. Soon
