after the team came for the Collins luggage the man who refused Eastman the deers horns which they jointly got on South Train. The teamster said he would be back for us at 7. I turned out shortly after the men who built up a good fire to warm themselves. Eastman dreamed the camp was inundated and shouted to me and got up and rushed out to see the extent of the disaster. We had an early breakfast and got all packed by 7 but the team did not come until after 9. We left Powers at 11, cold as winter but bright and a N. wind and lunched at Shad pond from which place we ran down to Midway in 2 1/2 hours, running most of the rapids and we only walked around Ledge Falls and Rockabema. The run down was very exhilarating as the river was high and the water strong. Found a letter from Sara and one from Alice. Mr. Kimball cashed a check for $100 for me. We had a good supper and did considerable packing. I paid Tim Reid for taking our traps in to the camp 2 days and bring us and our luggage from Mattawamkeag $11. Royal and Alva went home 3 or 4 miles below and are to come tomorrow at 9 or 10 to take us to Matta. in canoes. Dan came over and we asked him up to my room where I paid him. I gave him my pruning knife and my satchel I bought here and Eastman gave him a half dollar and a good cigar which with one he gave me we smoked together When he went home across the river. I had a good bath and had a fire made in my room and went to bed well tired.

Tuesday 22. A cold night but a bright frosty morning. We had our breakfast and finished our packing and were ready to start at 10. I and my luggage in Royals canoe and Johnson in Albas. We stopped a moment to see John Hale who keeps the ferry. He wanted to inquire about Church. We stopped again at Royals house about 3 miles below Midway and I went up to the house to see his wife.
