Mr. Charles E. Qualls, General Chairman
Coordinating Committee of Anacostia and Vicinity
2433 Nichols Avenue, S.E.
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Qualls:
Reference is made to your letter of June 2, 1955, on
behalf of your committee, requesting permission to erect a directional sign at the corner of Nichols Avenue and W Street, S.E. to the former home of Frederick Douglass, a memorial maintained by your committee. The Board of Commissioners, D.C. upon recommendation of the Public Space Committee, D.C. has granted permission for the erection of the sign in question. This sign must conform in size and lettering with our present street designation signs and must be erected in such manner as may be required by the Electrical Engineer, D.C. In the event you so desire, the sign will be manufactured by the Electrical Division, D.C. at the expense of your
committee.
It is, therefore, suggested that you contact Mr. H.A.
Friede, Electrical Engineer, D.C., Room 210, District Building,
National 8-6000, extension 695 relative to the erection of this
sign.
Sincerely yours,
G M Thornett
Secretary,
Board of Commissioners, D.C.
