Dear sir,

I wish to congratulate you on behalf of this Committee and myself for being chosen as the 1955 recepient of the Spingarn Award. Your consistent fight for civil rights for the Negro is well know and has been for many years;therefor we are very pleased that you were chosen.

I would like to state also the very keen interest that your paper and yourself have shown in the Frederick Douglass Home here in Washington. The cooperation shown by the Afro has helped us to convey to the people the great historical heritage this great man left us.

At present we are in the midst of painting the Douglass Home and some minor repairs. We do hope that this summner you will be able to come over to see the home.

We wish for you continued good health and many more distinguished years of work in the civil rights for all people.

Yours truly,
Charles E.Qualls
