Beginning June 4th of this year and continuing all summer The Frederick Douglass Memorial Home at 1411 W.Street SE has undergone repairs: painting of the roof and exteror.

Seeing the run down and delapidated condition of the shrine The Coordinating Committee of Anacostia & Vicinity contacted the Frederick Douglas Memorial & Historical Assoc, whose president is in St. Louis and the president of the National Assoc. of Colored Women, who is located in Chicago offering aid to help rehabilitate the home. These two groups are charged with its upkeep-gave their consent. The committee started a campaign for contributions for the home-boar rides, dinners etc.

Their was some volunteer work-much of it had to be paid for-teenagers were used to help paint -many used this/money for their school supplies etc.

In order to interest more people in the home the committee is having a soiree to show the people what the shrine is and what has been done and what is needed to be done. The program is Saturday Oct. 8th at 3PM. Me George O. Butler, Pres. of the Federated civic Associations will speak. Mr Samuel Heskins -editor of the Afro-American will also speak.

Members of the Douglass Home Steering Committee of the Coordinating Committee are: Mrs Lydia Lambert, Mrs Estelle Warner, Rev. S.E. Guiles, Mr Raymont V. McKenzie, Mrs Frances Mason, Dr Clarles K. Qualls, Chr.
