SPECIAL DELIVERY

July 12,1955
2433 Nichols Ave SE

Bishop D.Ward Nichols
Statler Hotel.
Washington,D.C.

Dear sir,

we are in the final stages of painting and doing minor repair to the Frederick Douglas Memorial Home here in Washington,D.C.

For the past six months we have collected funds from individuals, organizat1ons, churches including Campbell A.M.E. Church. The Pastor of this church is a member of this committee and has been most active in helping us in our work. He was given our annual citation last year for community work. Rev. S.E.Guiles is an asset to our community.

The Contributions and volunteer work thus far have not been sufficient to complete this paint and repair project. Therefore we have and are asking for additional funds to complete same. The shrine to Douglass is of national significance.

As per my conversation with Mrs Nichols last
evening, we would appreciate a contribution from the
Quadrennial convention of the A.M.E. Church-whatever Amount. As a matter of interest the candle sticks at Metropolitan A.M.E.Church were given by Frederick Douglass and he was buried from that church.

If there is any further information or papers
to support this worthy request, please contact me
or I will come to present our problem in person.

Your Truly,
C.E.Qualls
Gen.Chairman
