(See attached mailing list) Dear Miss __: This Committee is planning a short program for Tuesday, February 14th at 2:30 P.M. to honor the 139th anniversary of Frederick Douglass' birth, at the Memorial Home, 1411 W Street, S.E. Douglass was called the "Sage of Anacostia"; and is a part of our heritage. He was a champion for women suffrage, writer, orator, Recorder of Deed and Marshall for the District of Columbia, a Confident of President Lincoln, Grant, Garfield, and Harrison. All these accomplishments in addition to his major work; freedom for all Americans. This program meets the approval of the school authorities. Each principal is being asked to participate by sending a delegation of pupils. It is the desire of the Committee to make this an annual occasion to honor Frederick Douglass; a great American and distinguished Washington citizen. We would therefore be pleased to hear from you by February 7th if you will have a representative at the program. Yours very respectfully, Charles E. Qualls General Chairman
