OFFICE OF THE GENERAL SECRETARY

THE OCTAGON, WASHINGTON, D.C.

December 7th, 1917.

Mr. Charles L. Freer,
33 Ferry Avenue, East,
Detroit, Michigan.

Dear Mr. Freer:

I hope that you are planning to attend the General Meeting of the Institute in Philadelphia, December 26th - 29th. There is every prospect of a large attendance and an interesting program.

We are quite anxious to complete before the Annual Meeting of the Council the Guaranty Fund referred to in the enclosed letter, of which something over $1000.00 remains to be collected. You were good enough to give us $50.00 last year, and I write to ask if you will not kindly renew your subscription.

Owing to war conditions, ART AND ARCHAEOLOGY will naturally have to put forth unusual efforts to maintain its standard and increase its circulation, and our chief reliance is the good will of our friends. Notwithstanding the many demands made upon you at this time, I sincerely trust that you can assist us to this extent.

With cordial regards, I am
Very truly yours,
Mitchell Carroll

EH.
