Shortly after Mr. Blair left me. Mr. Clark came and told me that the citizens had selected Frank Raney as their captain and were arming themselves; there were about twenty of them, I told him that I wanted the horses in the stable to leave on, he told me that Raney had taken the keys of the stable & that he could not get them, I then told him that I wanted my horses out of the stable, he said that he would try and get them for me. I requested Mr. Cheek to loan me his six shooter as I was unarmed, which he did, and I have since returned it to him - I told him to have nothing to do with the disturbance. Mr. Cheek, then left me, and I then left the stables without getting my horses, and went to the north west corner of the square and sit down under a shed and remained there till about 12 O'clock. There was a party of 18 or 20 citizens on North East Corner of the Square in arms. It was when the mob meeting was going on in Cundiff house that Mr. Cheek says I had a mind to fire on them - and not on the peaceable citizens =
